We are Polish
students of physiotherapy who attend the English lessons with the Finnish
sports instructor students.
On 10th of February we helped organizing the winter activities
for the students of the cross cultural communication course. It took place at
Ounasvaara, close to Santa Sport and in the sports hall. Two weeks before
this date we started to plan the activities. We sent the invitation and
planned colorful diplomas for the students. We also planned a lot of various
activities typical for Finland such as snowshoeing, deep snow football,
elephant ball, city war. We were divided in small groups and everyone had his
own task to fill.
We have to add that the weather was
great. The sun was shining all afternoon, the temperature was about -10 degrees
and everyone had a lot of fun.
In the beginning
all the students were divided in three groups. The first group played deep snow
football, the second group went snowshoeing and the third group wanted to
stay inside the building and play some games.
We were
responsible for snowshoeing. But it was also our first time to try it so we
were rather the observers. Nevertheless we helped the other students to put the
snowshoes on and we talked to them. We went to the forest and went snowshoeing
in deep snow. After that we organized a small competition on the football
field. We divided people in 4 groups and they had to run as fast as they could
one by one in the same group. The fastest team was the winner. For everyone it
was the first time on snowshoes and they were happy.
After that the
group who was snowshoeing went to play football and the group that played
football went snowshoeing. The international team played against the Finnish
students of sports. It was hard because the Finns were more adjusted to playing
football in the snow and it was easier for them. However everyone regardless of
nationality had a lot of fun. Finally the international team won but the score
wasn’t important and the atmosphere was very friendly.
After outdoor
activities we went to the school and there were various indoor games
organized including elephant ball and city war. Some of the
students played city war while the others played elephant ball.
The aim of the city war was to get
the flag of another team or avoid being hit by the opponents. The team
who captured the flag won.
Finally we ate the
delicious carrot cake made by the Finnish student, drank the fruit juice and
took some pictures but unfortunately not everyone could stay until the
end because they went on the cottage weekend to Leirikari.
